Elias is a Post-Doctoral researcher for the A6 project, “Welfare state reform support from below: linking individual attitudes and organized interests in Europe”. Previously, he studied sociology and economics in Leipzig (until 2009) and was a PhD-student at the Graduate School of Economic and Social Sciences (GESS) at the University of Mannheim from 2010 until 2014. His research interests include political sociology, comparative political economy, welfare state preferences, behavioural economics and survey methodology. His previous research has been published in European Sociological Review, Health Policy, Ageing & Society, European Journal of Political Research and West European Politics. He is the editor (together with Bernhard Ebbinghaus) of a book focusing on the role of public opinion and organized interests in respect to policy change: "Welfare State Reforms Seen from Below - Comparing Public Attitudes and Organized Interests in Britain and Germany".
