Our SFB member Marcel Preuß (A7) will present his talk "Why fairness views are income-dependent" at the European ESA-meeting ( 6th to 9th September 2017) in Vienna. His talk is also part of the SFB project "Heterogeneity in fairness beliefs".

Our SFB member Carina Cornesse (A8) will visit the PUMA-Symposium 2017 in Linz (Austria). Furthermore, she will present her talk "Repräsentativität und Antwortqualität in Online Panels" during the event on October 13th, 2017.

 

21/09/2017: Bart Meuleman to visit the SFB

Prof. Dr. Bart Meuleman (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven) supported the SFB as guest researcher during the Fall Semester 2015 and will visit one more time to work together with the A6 project from the 5th until the 7th October, 2017.
The aim of his visit is to work on an article for one of his miscellanies, which evaluates the newest survey wave of the European Social Survey regarding welfare state attitudes.

Guy Vanmeenen, Head Financial Services at Financial Sector Deepening Zambia (FSDZ) in Lusaka (Zambia), will be visiting project for his second time A9 & B7 from the 9th to the 10th of August.. He will discuss how Zambian saving groups can gain insights into the concept of group insurance and learn from it.

22/05/2017: Christopher Antoun to visit Mannheim

Christopher Antoun, Postdoctoral Researcher at the Center for Survey Measurement, U.S. Census Bureau in Suitland (Maryland, USA), will be visiting project A9 to work on the analysis of data on smartphone ownership and use in Germany - data collected in the GIP, June 5-18, 2017. In addition, he will collaborate with A9 on the willingness to participate in passive mobile data collection, in a German nonprobability online panel.

30/03/2017: Marc Debus new director of the MZES

Our principal investigator Marc Debus (project C2) wasappointed  as new director of the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research (MZES) of the University of Mannheim. He will lead the MZES for the next three years.
The 38-year old Political Scientist Marc Debus has already been part of the MZES Executive Board as Head of Research Department B "European Political Systems and their Integration" since spring 2014.

Our student assistant Katharina Burgdorf (Z1) was awarded the GOR Thesis Award at the General Online Research Conference, March 15-17, 2017 in Berlin.

The award was for her Bachelorthesis on "Determinants of Item Nonresponse in the German Internet Panel". Her supervisor was our member Barbara Felderer.

Former SFB 884 member David Fortunato, now tenured Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University (USA), will be visiting his old project C1, where he was a research fellow between 2010 and 2011. Together with his former colleagues he will work on the two projects "Electoral Institutions and Committee Memberships" and "Strategic Use of Splitting Bills in the Policymaking Process" and thereby visit the SFB from Febuary 8 - Febuary 28, 2017.

 

20/01/2017: Thomas König appointed to think tank "Frankfurter Zukunftsrat"

Our speaker Thomas König was appointed to the future think tank "Frankfurter Zukunftsrat". He will be part of the committee on politics and economics, consisting of six leading figures from this field, like f.e. Elmar Brok, chairman of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs, and Prof. Lars P. Feld, member of the German Council of Economic Experts.

11/01/2017: Annelies Blom appointed to the Supervisory Board of The Netherlands Institute for Social Research

The Dutch Minister for Health, Welfare and Sport has appointed our principal investigator Annelies Blom as a member of the Supervisory Board of The Netherlands Institute for Social Research (SCP) for the period 2017-2021. SCP is a government agency which conducts research into the social aspects of all areas of government policy. The main fields studied are health, welfare, social security, the labour market and education, with a particular focus on the interfaces between these fields. The Supervisory Board has an important supervisory and advisory remit and advises on the Research Programme. It also monitors the scientific standard and social relevance of the work carried out by SCP.
