The SFB 884 “Political Economy of Reforms” is located at the University of Mannheim. It is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) for the period 2010-2017 with the opportunity for extension to 2021. The center’s researchers come from disciplines as diverse as economics, political science, sociology, and statistics. Furthermore, the University is awarded the national “Excellence Initiative” status. Numerous disciplinary rankings, awards and evaluations also attest to the quality of research and teaching at the University of Mannheim. The University’s trademark is its distinct profile. This is characterized by Mannheim’s renowned economic and social sciences which are closely intertwined with humanities, law, mathematics and computer science.

 

The School of Social Sciences and the Department of Economics are the main collaborating institutions of the SFB 884, with three research institutes as cooperating partners (GESIS, MZES, ZEW). Each department has a high international scholarly reputation and strong collaboration with leading research centers. Besides their individual record, both departments have a long interdisciplinary tradition. In all important rankings in the past few years, the two departments have been among the top three in their respective disciplines, often ranked as the leading department.
